Mendelssohn -- Hymn of Praise

October 15, 2006

The Hymn of Praise by Felix Mendelssohn will be sung by the combined choirs of Trinity Presbyterian Church and Oak Lawn United Methodist Church on two consecutive Sundays, October 15th at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Presbyterian, 901 N. Zang in Oak Cliff, and 10:50 a.m. at Oak Lawn United Methodist, 3014 Oak Lawn Avenue in Oak Lawn.

The choirs are under the direction of Wayne Davis, and accompanied by Russ Reiger.

The Hymn of Praise was written by Mendelssohn in 1840 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the printing press. It is known by its German name Lobegesang and is his second symphony. The cantata is the choral and solo music taken from the symphonic movements for these worship services. The texts are centered on the praise and worship of God, being derived from the Psalms and other scripture texts. As these events are worship services, they are free and the public is invited.
